Microstrip antennas on conformal surfaces

Résumé

This paper is concerned with anlysis methods for microstraip patch antennas on planar and conformal surfacaes. The discussion is deveded into two parts. Part i introduces different patch antenna elements together with planar array configurations in which these elements can be used. A review of feeding methods and theorical treament for individual elements and arrays is gevin. Part II is concerned surfaces which in general can include cylindrical, conical, pyramidal and spherical surfaces. By neglecting mutual coupling is proposed to obtain the far firld pattern for a conformal antenna system. Two coordinate systems are introduced: one - global, associated with the entire antenna and the other one - global, associated with the entire antenna and the other one - local , associated with an individual source. These systems ara used to perform all the necessary field transformations which arerequired inthe calculations of the field pattern. The algorithm is verified experimentally for the root-top and pyramidal conformal arrays. Theoretical field patterns for other antenna configurations ara also produced.
