Résumé

Reliable liquid*liquid equilibrium data between hyd rocarbons, mono ethylene glycol and water is important for optimizing natural gas processing pla nts and their treatment units. As a result of the very low concentrations to be measured, the determi nation of hydrocarbon solubility in the polar phase is rather difficult. However the dissolved qu antities have to be known accurately in order to make robust and safe design of industrial separatio n processes. The solubility of four hydrocarbons (hexane, n*octane, n*dodecane and n*hexadecane) in aqueous phase containing mono ethylene glycol, MEG has been measured. The water content an d the concentration of MEG in the organic phase were also determined. To establish liquid*liquid equilibrium, a glass cel l of about 300 ml was used. The cell was equipped with a magnetic stirrer and a jacket for a circulating fluid to keep constant the temperature of the liquid mixture. The temperature was controlled to within 0.1 K. Two different gas chromatography (GC) apparatuses with different columns, injectors and detectors (flame ionization detector and mass spectrometry detector) and a coulometric Karl Fischer (KF) system were used to analyze the trace amounts of compounds involved in this study. The experimental solubility of the hydrocarbons in the polar phase r anges between 10 *3 and 10 *9 (mole fraction). The liquid*liquid equilibrium data were correlated with the NRTL model using temperature*dependent parameters.
