Conservative conversion between LaTeX and TeXmacs

Abstract

Back and forth converters between two document formats are said to be conservative if the following holds: given a source document D, its conversion D', a locally modified version M' of D' and the back conversion M of M', the document M is a locally modified version of D. We will describe mechanisms for the implementation of such converters, with the LaTeX and TeXmacs formats as our guiding example.
