Shape descriptors to characterize the evolution of cerebral ischemic lesions in longitudinal follow up with perfusion weighted MRI

Abstract

We investigate the spatial structure of ischemic lesions with perfusion weighted MRI (PWI).It is known that ischemic lesions are rather multicomponent and the number of components evolves during the stabilization process of the lesion. We propose to extend the characterization of the shape of these lesions with quantitative descriptors applied on a longitudinal study. Four of our descriptors inform about a distinct aspect of the lesions shape and appear individually correlated to their evolution. Our study therefore demonstrates that a predictive model could be postulated with these variables.
