Mobility towards homogenization ? A synthetic overview through multivariate analysis
Résumé
This paper is investigating the main determiners of mobility behaviors and their long-term stability through a synthetic approach based on factor analysis. Principal component analysis is applied to mobility behaviors, pictured through a vector of trip intensities. Comparative analysis of national transport surveys reveals a trend towards homogenization of mobility levels, with respect to traditional socio-demographic variables, land use patterns and conditions of access to mobility. As a result, the main factor of mobility behaviors becomes qualitative and may be described in terms of lifestyles and modal split contrasting motorized, peripheric, and alternative, urban mobility.
