Influence of the elastic stress relaxation on the microstructures and mechanical properties of metal-matrix composites

Abstract

Role of the residual stresses on the mechanical properties of metal-matrix composites is studied. It is shown that the stress relaxation can be responsible for the morphologies and spatial distribution of precipitates. Direct measurements of the residual stress is also emphasized and the influence of dislocations in the accommodation process and during interface crossing is exemplified.
