The EUROPIV syntheetic image generator (SIG)

Résumé

The aim of this paper is to present the main features of the PIV Synthetic Image Generator (SIG) which was developed in the frame of the EUROPIV 2 project. The aim of developing this generator was to have a standardised tool, which allows the generation of identical synthetic PIV images in different teams and to simplify the performance evaluation of PIV processing algorithms. A second objective was to have a flexible tool that can be used to prepare a PIV experiment by optimizing the recording parameters on realistic synthetic images. This was quite useful and successful in the EUROPIV 2 project. Consequently, it was decided to make this tool available to the scientific community. The basic version of the SIG is provided on the CD-ROM going with the present book. It will be available and updated on the PIVnet website: pivnet.sm.go.dlr.de.
