WiMAX-based Overlay Conferencing Service
Résumé
This paper proposes a new service architecture based on the interconnectivity between Subscriber Units (SUs) running on WiMAX network participating in an Application Layer Multicasting-based distributed multimedia conference. The novelty of the proposal is that it replaces the standard centralized architecture of IMS-based conference in order to utilize the intelligence and computational capacity of WiMAX Base stations. Thanks to a distributed architecture, the expensive Media Resource Function Controller (MRFC) and Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP) can be completely omitted in this proposal. Experimental results show that the proposed architecture outperforms the previous system. Afterward, a prototype has been built to measure and prove the advanced performance of the proposed architecture.
