NUEVOS MOVIMIENTOS GLOBALES Y AGROECOLOGÍA: EL CASO DE EUROPA

Résumé

The objective of this article is understand and illustrate current dynamics and proposals developed by new global movements involved in agroecological experiences around Europe. We deal with two interrelated paradigms that have played a major role in contesting globalization and proposing alternative agendas. On the one hand, we argue that the new global movements are a new pole of reference for collective action in terms of critiques and promotion of new political practices. We could talk of a meta-frame or a meta-identity that permeates the whole sense of mobilization: radical democracy (Calle 2005, 2009). It would be characterized by a conceptualization of new forms of democracy and participation “from below”, involving deliberation, horizontality and problematization of what we understand for commons and rights. On the other hand, new social paradigms have been set up concerning food production. In reaction to global markets, agroecology is a new frame characterized by a search of a sustainable agriculture devoted to endogenous development (Sevilla Guzmán 2006, Gliessman 2007, Van der Ploeg 2009). In this article we will argue how radical democracy and agroecology are two paradigms that feed each other. Part of these new global movements are a consequence of this mutual support of two political trends opposing globalization. We will illustrate this in the case of Europe, analyzing three major experiences coming from 1) political ecologism, 2) new patterns and demands of peasant networks and 3) emerging forms of organizing self-production.
