Stereoscopic PIV using optical flow: investigation of a recirculating cavity flow

Abstract

Experimental measurement of the three compo-nents of velocity inside a plane is addressed with the stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (PIV) using an optical flow algorithm. This technique is a valu-able diagnostic tool for quantitative instantaneous de-scription of three-dimensional (3D) turbulent flows, as those dominated by vortex motion.
