Building and validating a Manufacturing Ontology to achieve Interoperability

Résumé

In modern manufacturing systems that utilize information and communication technologies for the interconnection of manufacturing applications through networks, a number of interoperability issues has to be dealt with. Ontologies are becoming a promising answer to interoperability problems, offering formal definitions of entities and relationships in a particular domain. This paper presents the construction of a manufacturing ontology based on some selected standards of manufacturing models and languages, in an application utilizing software agents.
