Du percept auditif au geste articulatoire : les capacités perceptuo-motrices chez les enfants normolecteurs et dyslexiques

Résumé

It is an old matter of debate to determine to what extent perceptual and motor representations are connected in speech communication. A number of recent neurocognitive data confirmed the existence of strong links between perception and action in the human brain. In the framework of PACT [1] in which speech units are considered as gestures shaped by perceptual processes, we explore the ability of children to recover the basic vowel gestures from speech sound. We found that children were indeed able to perform the task up to a certain extent. There appeared a clear progress from 4 to 6 and from 6 to 10. We proposed an original algorithm enable to infer from these data an internal representational space for oral vowels. The space appeared to increase in size and improve in regularity with age. A comparison with dyslexic children showed a significant decrease in performance, probably associated to a poorer representation of the basic gestures.
