Résumé

As the number and variety of forms of public actions supporting Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I hereafter) has increased, despite their reliance on ever-scarcer public financial resources since the 1980s, evaluation studies have multiplied. At the same time, this period has seen an increasing sophistication and refinement in analyses of the research and innovation processes, and the accompanying rationale for and tools of state intervention.
