Monitoring of the foundations of a coastal structure submitted to breaking waves: occurrence of momentary liquefaction

Résumé

A bunker dating from the 2 nd world war that is presently on the beach due to beach retreat, was used as a coastal structure. Different instruments were deployed in its vicinity during three field experiments carried out in 2002 and 2003. The results of field experiments are presented herein. The time variation of pressure measured at different depth inside the soil was investigated. The aim of the field experiment was to check the possible occurrence of liquefaction during the erosion process of the foundations. Pore pressure measurements show the decay of the pressure variations transmitted inside the soil and are discussed in terms of momentary liquefaction occurrence.
