Improving the DEVS/HLA Environment
Résumé
Two of the current challenges in the simulation are the reuse of models and the composition of global simulations from distributed simulators. This paper presents a new DEVS/HLA environment. This environment uses the DEVS concepts for exploiting discrete event simulation performances and HLA specification to connect distant DEVS models. We present another DEVS/HLA integration based on the use of a partial HLA lookahead that improves the performance of the distributed simulation without transferring the knowledge of coupling relations from the RTI level to the federate level and without broadcasting messages globally. Furthermore, our local simulation structure chosen is “put in flat” to reduce the exchange of messages between components with regard to the classical DEVS simulators structure. Finally, the simulation compatibility with the standard HLA, thanks to the use of messages exchange synchronization mechanisms, allows it to become integrated into compatible heterogeneous global HLA simulations.
