Ultrasonic testing of steel tubes by supercritical parametric wave phase conjugation

Résumé

An application of principles of parametric wave phase conjugation (WPC) of ultrasound to inspection of metallic cylindrical tubes including various volume densities and sizes of scattering defects is demonstrated experimentally. The magnetoacoustic phase conjugator under supercritical electromagnetic parametric pumping was used for real time WPC with giant amplification of weak acoustic signals. It is demonstrated that phase conjugate wave (PCW) amplitude is correlated to the volume density and size of the defects and that this procedure is usable for a quick sort of tubes after manufacturing.
