This EPG study of the linguopalatal articulation and coarticulation of segments at prosodic boundaries in French shows that some articulatory cues vary according to the hierarchical level of the prosodic boundaries. The stronger the boundary, (i) the larger the duration and the magnitude of linguopalatal opening of the final pre-boundary vowel; (ii) the closer inter-gestural timing between vowel and coda consonant of the pre-boundary rime; (iii) the larger the articulatory timing and the more reduced the spatial coarticulation between trans-boundary segments. These results are interpreted as a gradual supralaryngeal strengthening of the boundary demarcation as function as the prosodic hierarchy.
