Continuum Thermodynamics
Abstract
This paper gives an overview on Continuum Thermodynamics. The method of the local accompanying equilibrium state and the description of the constitutive equations under the assumption of a thermodynamic potential and of a potential of dissipation are discussed. Some classical applications are given, mainly for solids. The concept of local or global state variables are introduced and its interests are illustrated by relevant examples in plasticity, in fracture mechanics and in micro-macro approach.
