Technology and Ethnology of Prehistoric Worlds Research Lab

Technology and Ethnology of Prehistoric Worlds (UMR 8068 TEMPS) is an archaeology laboratory under the triple supervision of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS): Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (UP1), and the University of Paris Nanterre (UPN), in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the French National Institute for Archaeological Research (INRAP). It is currently located in the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Mondes (MSHM) in Nanterre. The central object of the research developed within this unit concerns past societies, from the most ancient prehistory to the historical periods. This research focuses on the study of techniques and on a palethnological approach in the broad sense. It embraces the diversity of human groups from contrasting environments (terrestrial, maritime, mountainous, desert) in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, Southern America and the Near East. It is therefore the study of "Prehistoric Worlds" in their great diversity that is at stake. The unit is also strongly involved in teaching and in research training in archaeology (Licence-Master-Doctorate) in the two universities under its supervision and is associated with the Doctoral Schools: ED112 - Archaeology (UP1) and ED395 - Spaces, Times, Cultures (UPN).
