Motorcycle riders vs. automated vehicles in a congested-traffic situation: a simulator study

Résumé

We conducted a motorcycle-riding simulator study to compare the riding behavior of PTW riders when interacting with (a) human-driven vehicles or (b) visually identifiable AVs in a congested-traffic situation. Our results were twofold: (1) our twenty-three participants trusted AVs, notably in dangerous situations, and (2) they found visual differentiation of AVs beneficial in order to adjust their expectations of the behavior of these vehicles.
