Comparison of two models for the imaging mechanism of underwater bottom topography by synthetic aperture radar

Résumé

Two models for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging of underwater bottom topography are compared in order to estimate the relative importance of a full modelization of SAR processing and hydrodynamic modulation. It is concluded that backscatter contrasts are better estimated when velocity bunching and azimuth smearing are taken into account, even when a simple model for the hydrodynamic modulation is used.
