History, Archaeology and Literature of the Medieval Christian and Muslim Worlds

This unit is a joint lab associating the CNRS (National center of scientific research), Lyon 2 University, Lyon 3 University, EHESS (School of advanced studies in social sciences), ENS de Lyon (School of advanced studies in humanities) and Avignon University. It associates archeologists, historians, and literary specialists all focused on medieval times (5th to 15th century). Their work concern Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes area (in France), Christian and Muslim western Mediterranean Sea belt and Middle East.

For the period 2021-2025, the CIHAM's research is oriented according to three themes supplemented by a transversal axis.

From 2016 to 2020, research was organised into five thematic research axes supplemented by a transversal axis.
