index - CI2BM09 - MICCAI Workshop on Cardiovascular Interventional Imaging and Biophysical Modelling
Summary

Medical imaging has a front-line role for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD), one of the leading worldwide causes of morbidity and mortality and a significant healthcare burden. Advances in imaging have had a significant impact on the management of CVD and on-going research in the field of interventional imaging is likely to have a large impact in the near future. Recent advances in the development of biophysical modelling have lead to one of the most advanced examples of organ modelling with the advent of whole heart in-silico models. The coupling of imaging and biophysical modelling is opening up new avenues for the validation, testing, and clinical application of biophysical models for the planning and delivery of treatments for CVD.

This workshop will bring together a multi-disciplinary group consisting of engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, and clinicians to discuss and challenge the frontiers of cardiovascular interventional imaging and biophysical modelling. The workshop will consist of 4 sessions, each with 3 leading invited speakers and 3 submitted paper talks, and also poster presentations between sessions at lunch time. The sessions will include:

  1. Developments in image guidance and modelling for cardiac electrophysiological interventions;
  2. Hemodynamics and fluid dynamics;
  3. Perfusion, contractility and heart failure;
  4. Device delivery, surgery planning and future directions.
