Résumé

Summary of the work of the Chair of History and Philology for the year 2022-2023. The first part is devoted to a dossier of letters from the Larsa kingdom in the 19th century BC: the city of Rahabum attacked by the neighboring king of Isin; the second part is devoted to the reports of two nomad chiefs from Mari (18th BC), whose letters have recently been published. These documents enable us to sketch a social portrait of the tribal leaders, but also, in the case of the letters from the great leader of the transhumant herd, named Ašmaṭ, to reconstruct the seasons of the nomads in a very precise historical period. In the following part of this report, we present synthetic portraits of several sedentary chiefs who lived in the Habur region, to which the nomads mentioned above moved every year with their flocks of sheep. These were the kings of the city of Talhayûm (Hammi-epuh, Yawi-el and Asdi-neʾim) and the adventurers Samsi-Erah and Asqur-Addu. Some of the textual sources on which these short biographies are based are still unpublished. Finally, an extract from the translation of the beginning of the Sumerian poem Lugale is given, together with a composite copy whose function is simply didactic.
